Carpet BallEverything we've learned that works (and doesn't) has been engineered into our new 20th Anniversary Edition Carpet Ball game. Boxed hardwood legs, synthetic playfield, oak cabinet and our exclusive "speed flap/deflector" combine to make this our finest Carpet Ball game ever. In fact, it is so well made that there is a good chance that the game will last longer than the building it's going in.
Here's a breakdown of some of the highlights. Legs - We've moved from using four (or six) individual legs to a pair of double paneled legs. The reason is that unlike a pool table, Carpet Ball doesn't have the down force weight and the individual legs eventually breakdown from the constant rocking. The double panel and six bolts per leg eliminate all lateral stress. Synthetic Playfield - When we first started we used (what else?) carpet. We soon discovered that because of the constant play, the carpet wore out. Years ago we switched from carpet to synthetic, which not only will not wear out but is much quieter. Speed Flap/Deflector - Outside of our synthetic playfield, no other change has as many immediate and long term benefits. Essentially, the SFD is a double ply material which swings freely on a metal rod and is placed just past the end of the playfield. When the ball contacts the SFD all of the energy is absorbed and the ball gently falls into the open ball box. It is impossible to roll (throw) the ball hard enough to hit the back panel of the game. This has allowed us to eliminate the enclosed end which makes it easier to retrieve the shooter and virtually eliminates all of the noise, which we discovered is the most cited complaint by staff. It also allows the kids to get closer to the playfield and minimizes the need to roll the ball faster, which also makes the game safer. Solid Oak Cabinet - Because of all of the advantages of our speed flap/deflector we were able to eliminate all of the laminate, metal trim and enclosed ball box (which we used to protect the game) and build our cabinets out of solid oak hardwood. And as an added benefit, it has a very impressive appearance. 20th Anniversary Edition Ruxton - THE "Hard Play" Game Company $1995.00 (plus crating & freight) |
Blocker BallAlmost two decades ago, we developed the commercial Carpet Ball game, and it is without question the most popular game in every club. However, Carpet Ball was designed for children, not teenagers, and what we discovered is that as the kids grow up, they still love to play Carpet Ball, so we designed a game just for them.
Blocker Ball is a more challenging teen/adult version of Carpet Ball. It's longer, wider and built higher to accommodate the taller teens. It also includes a great new feature the "blocker." The blocker is a rubber block which is permanently attached on a metal rod and slides across the width of the playfield, and is placed a few inches in front of the balls. Before the "shooter" is rolled, the receiving player can position their blocker in a way to best prevent, or deflect the shooter from hitting the balls. Only on a perfectly rolled straight shot will the shooter pass through the blocker and hit any balls behind it. Carpet Ball is strictly an offensive game, but with Blocker Ball, you now have the element of defense which requires a sense of strategic thinking that teenagers find more challenging. The blocker/rod removes in seconds (and stores on convenient hooks under each end) so it converts back to conventional Carpet Ball, or the game can be handicapped, with the better player removing their blocker while the less skilled player retains theirs. Both Blocker and Carpet Ball feature our exclusive "speed flap/deflector" which prevents the shooter from hitting the vunerable end panel and also deflects the ball down into our larger ball receiver box. It also completely eliminates the annoying "thump" of the ball constantely hitting the back panel. Carpet Ball is still the must have game, but if you already have one, and you have a teen center, we hope you'll consider Blocker Ball. We don't think there's any question that for a majority of your teens, Blocker Ball will be just as popular. After all, Blocker Ball is simply the logical extension of the most popular game in your club. Blocker Ball $2195.00 (plus crating & freight) |
